A few kilometers south of Noto, the remains of a Roman Villa can be found dating to the late Imperial Age. It was discovered by accident after policemen noticed some unusual movement to and from a farmhouse. People were looting pieces of mosaics which decorated an enormous dwelling, probably belonging to a rich Roman statesman.
Today three rooms and the lovely decorated mosaics of a corridor remain under the foundation of a typical Sicilian farmhouse called “ massaria”. The site will offer you the chance to admire the fertility of the Tellaro valley with its almond cultivations. It is also possible to taste an adaptation of an ancient Roman recipe.
